Invigorating My Soul.

As an adult, now with two children, married over 13 years, it wasn't until last year that I really started grasping the truth that I CAN learn hard skills. It started with learning to make fresh milled flour bread, but the creative side of me has itched all my life. I have tried with drawing because the beautiful images in my head want to be seen on paper, alas I have tried, but there is very slow growth.
But sewing. To be able to make something with my hands that I can wear! To make a gift for someone else!
My husband said I could purchase a sewing machine in China even though we knew we would be moving in a couple of months (voltage is different than in the USA). But I was so ready to start trying. To stop putting it off for another time. I did some research and fell in love with the look and specs of the Singer HD500.
I did some more research trying to understand what is crucial in a sewing space. And then I saw what we have available, and I set my space up. I knew the big fabric cutting would have to happen at the kitchen table, but the rest... I needed a spot.

I found an unused desk in the apartment, moved my bed over to the left to make more room on the right. I grabbed the ironing board from behind the room door, and the iron from the top of the closet. I placed my beautiful new black Singer HD500 on the desk. I repurposed a basket to store threads and such, and there it was, my sewing spot. It was such an invigorating, and life-giving experience. I was one step closer to being able to make things, and I needed this in my life.
Do you have a sewing spot? Or a creating spot of some sort? I would love to see a picture!
